Sam Houston had many accomplishments in his lifetime. He was the only person in American history to serve as governor of two states and was the general of the Texas Army during the Texas Revolutionary War. Houston was the first elected president of the Republic of Texas and a senator for the state of Texas after its annexation into the United States. He was an active advocate for the Cherokee Nation and Native American rights.
